Question 18: History and Culture
Who was the last ruler of the Tughlaq dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate?
aFiroj Shah Tughlaq
bGhiyas-ud-din Tughlaq Shah II
cNasir-ud-din Mahmud
dNasrat Shah
AnswerThe answer is (c).
Nasir-ud-din Mahmud Shah (1394-1413) was the last Tughlaq ruler. Timur sacked Delhi in 1398 during his reign, and the Sayyid dynasty took the throne in 1414 under Khizr Khan. Firoz Shah Tughlaq (1351-88) was a middle ruler, Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq Shah II ruled briefly in 1388-89, and Nusrat Shah was only a rival claimant.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Firoz Shah ruled in the middle of the dynasty, from 1351 to 1388.
- (b) Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq Shah II ruled only briefly, around 1388-89.
- (c) Correct: Nasir-ud-din Mahmud was the last Tughlaq ruler.
- (d) Nusrat Shah was a rival claimant to the throne, not the last ruler.
