Question 38: Geography

In which one of the following countries is rupee its currency?

aBhutan
bMalaysia
cMaldives
dSeychelles

AnswerThe answer is (d).

Seychelles uses the Seychelles rupee. Other countries with a rupee are India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Mauritius. Bhutan's currency is the ngultrum, Malaysia's is the ringgit, and the Maldives' is the rufiyaa, which is easily mistaken for a rupee. Remember the Indian Ocean rupee countries: Seychelles and Mauritius, as well as the South Asian ones.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Bhutan uses the ngultrum.
  • (b) Malaysia uses the ringgit.
  • (c) The Maldives use the rufiyaa, not the rupee.
  • (d) Correct: the Seychelles rupee.
