Question 24: Geography
Consider the following statements:
- 1.Longitude of Jabalpur’s location is between those of Indore and Bhopal.
- 2.Latitude of Aurangabad’s location is between those of Vadodara and Pune.
- 3.Bangalore is situated more southward than Chennai.
Which of these statements is/are correct?
a1 and 3
bOnly 2
c2 and 3
d1, 2 and 3
AnswerThe answer is (c).
Check against the map. Latitudes: Vadodara about 22.3 N, Aurangabad about 19.9 N, Pune about 18.5 N, so Aurangabad lies between them. Bangalore (about 13.0 N) is slightly south of Chennai (about 13.1 N). Longitudes: Indore about 75.9 E, Bhopal about 77.4 E, Jabalpur about 79.9 E, so Jabalpur lies east of both and not between them. Hence 2 and 3 are correct.
- 1. Jabalpur (about 79.9 E) is east of both Indore and Bhopal.
- 2. Aurangabad (about 19.9 N) lies between Vadodara (22.3 N) and Pune (18.5 N).
- 3. Bangalore (about 13.0 N) is slightly south of Chennai (about 13.1 N).
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Statement 1 is false, since Jabalpur lies east of both Indore and Bhopal.
- (b) Statement 3 is also true, so 'only 2' is incomplete.
- (c) Correct: statements 2 and 3.
- (d) Statement 1 is false, so all three cannot be right.
