athe kings of Tripura were always anti-British
bthe Bengal revolutionaries took shelter in Tripura
cthe tribes of the State were fiercely freedom loving
dthere were already some groups fighting against the kingship and its protector, the British
AnswerThe answer is (b).
Tripura was a princely state ruled by a Manikya king under British protection. It became involved in the freedom movement early in the twentieth century because Bengal's revolutionaries, who were being hunted by the British, took shelter there. Its closeness to Bengal and the Bengali links of the royal court and the people also played a part.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) The kings of Tripura were not always anti-British; they ruled under British protection.
- (b) Right: Bengal revolutionaries sheltered in Tripura.
- (c) The tribes' love of freedom is not the reason given for the involvement.
- (d) Local groups against the kingship are not the reason given; the arrival of Bengal revolutionaries is.
