Question 138: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
A, B, C, D, E and F, not necessarily in that order, are sitting in six chairs regularly placed around a round table. It is observed that A is between D and F. C is opposite D. D and E are not on neighbouring chairs. Which one of the following must be true?
AnswerThe answer is (d).
A sits between D and F, so seat them clockwise as A, D, x, y, C, F. C is opposite D, which fixes C in the fifth seat. B and E take the third and fourth seats. D and E are not neighbours, so E cannot take the third seat next to D; E takes the fourth and B the third. So B and E are neighbours.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) A is opposite E, not B.
- (b) D is opposite C, not E.
- (c) C's neighbours are E and F, so B is not next to C.
- (d) Right: B and E sit side by side.
