Question 11: Polity and Governance
The State which has the largest number of seats reserved for the Scheduled Tribes in Lok Sabha is
aBihar
bGujarat
cUttar Pradesh
dMadhya Pradesh
AnswerThe answer is (d).
At the time of the question, Madhya Pradesh, which then still included Chhattisgarh, had the largest number of Lok Sabha seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes because it has the largest Scheduled Tribe population in India (Gonds, Bhils and others). Bihar then included Jharkhand and had fewer, Gujarat had only a handful, and Uttar Pradesh has few tribal communities.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Bihar then included Jharkhand but still had fewer reserved ST seats than Madhya Pradesh.
- (b) Gujarat has only a handful of ST-reserved seats.
- (c) Uttar Pradesh has few Scheduled Tribe communities and few reserved ST seats.
- (d) Right: Madhya Pradesh had the most ST-reserved Lok Sabha seats.
