Question 107: Science and Technology
Neem tree has acquired industrial importance as a source of
abiopesticide and anti-fertility compound
banti-fertility compound, biofertilizer and anti-cancer drug
cbiofertilizer, biopesticide and anti-fertility compound
danti-cancer drug, biopesticide and biofertilizer
AnswerThe answer is (a).
Neem (Azadirachta indica) has industrial importance because azadirachtin and other compounds from its seeds and leaves act as natural pesticides, and neem preparations are also used as an anti-fertility (spermicidal) compound. It is not a source of a biofertiliser (microbial cultures) or of an established anti-cancer drug. Remember: neem means biopesticide, plus an anti-fertility use.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right. Biopesticide and anti-fertility compound.
- (b) Wrong. It adds biofertiliser and an anti-cancer drug.
- (c) Wrong. It adds biofertiliser.
- (d) Wrong. It adds an anti-cancer drug and biofertiliser.
