Question 44: History and Culture
Consider the following: I. Tughluqabad Fort. II. Lodi Garden. III. Qutub Minar. IV. Fatehpur Sikri. The correct chronological order in which they were built is:
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The Qutub Minar was begun by Qutbuddin Aibak around 1199 and completed by Iltutmish. Tughluqabad Fort was built by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq in the early fourteenth century. The Lodi Garden holds fifteenth and early sixteenth century tombs of the Sayyid and Lodi rulers. Fatehpur Sikri was built by Akbar from 1571. So the order is Qutub Minar, Tughluqabad, Lodi Garden, Fatehpur Sikri.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Puts the Lodi Garden after Fatehpur Sikri, but the Lodi tombs are older.
- (b) Right: III, I, II, IV.
- (c) Puts Tughluqabad before the Qutub Minar, which came first.
- (d) Starts with Tughluqabad and puts Fatehpur Sikri before the Lodi Garden; both are wrong.
