Question 92: Economy and Social Development
Assertion (A): The emergence of economic globalism does not imply the decline of socialist ideology. Reason (R): The ideology of Socialism believes in universalism and globalism. In the context of the above two statements, which one of the following is correct?
AnswerThe answer is (a).
Socialism has always been internationalist: its tradition speaks of the solidarity of workers across countries, so it looks beyond national borders much as global capital does. So the rise of economic globalism does not by itself end socialist ideology. R, which says socialism believes in universalism and globalism, is the reason A holds.
- A. Economic globalism does not by itself end socialist ideology.
- R. Socialism is internationalist and so believes in universalism and globalism.
How you could have got this

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: both are true and R explains A.
- (b) R is a correct explanation of A here, not merely a related truth.
- (c) R is true, so this option fails.
- (d) A is true, so this option fails.
