Question 123: Economy and Social Development

What is the average fat content of buffalo milk?

a7.2%
b4.5%
c9.0%
d10.0%

AnswerThe answer is (a).

Buffalo milk is richer in fat than cow's milk: the average is about 7 per cent, against about 4 per cent in cow's milk. That is why buffalo milk is preferred for making ghee, butter and paneer, and why it is thick and white.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Right: about 7.2 per cent fat.
  • (b) 4.5 per cent is closer to cow's milk.
  • (c) 9.0 per cent is above buffalo milk's average.
  • (d) 10.0 per cent is above buffalo milk's average.
