Question 85: History and Culture
What is the correct sequence of the following events? I. The Lucknow Pact II. The Introduction of Dyarchy III. The Rowlatt Act IV. The Partition of Bengal Choose the correct answer from the codes given below:
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The Partition of Bengal came in 1905. The Lucknow Pact between the Congress and the Muslim League followed in 1916. The Rowlatt Act was passed in 1919, and dyarchy was introduced in the provinces in 1921 under the Government of India Act, 1919. So the order is IV, I, III, II. Remember: 1905, 1916, 1919, 1921.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Puts partition last, but it came first, in 1905.
- (b) Right: 1905, 1916, 1919, 1921.
- (c) Puts the Lucknow Pact first and partition last; partition was in 1905.
- (d) Reverses the order; the Lucknow Pact came before the Rowlatt Act and dyarchy.
