Question 83: Geography
Arakan Yoma is the extension of the Himalayas located in
aBaluchistan
bMyanmar
cNepal
dKashmir
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The Arakan Yoma is a mountain range in western Myanmar (Burma), between the Bay of Bengal coast and the Irrawaddy valley. It is an extension of the Himalayan system, linked through the Patkai and Naga-Lushai ranges of north-eastern India, and continues into the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Remember: Arakan Yoma, Myanmar, part of the Himalayan chain.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Baluchistan has the Sulaiman and Kirthar ranges, not the Arakan Yoma.
- (b) Right: Myanmar.
- (c) Nepal has the central Himalaya, not the Arakan Yoma.
- (d) Kashmir has the Karakoram and western Himalaya, not the Arakan Yoma.
