Question 57: Polity and Governance
The Dinesh Goswami Committee was concerned with
ade-nationalisation of banks
belectoral reforms
csteps to put down insurgency in the North-east
dthe problem of the Chakmas
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The Dinesh Goswami Committee on Electoral Reforms was set up in 1990 by the V. P. Singh government, and its report dealt with the conduct of elections: the disqualification of candidates and the working and appointment of the Election Commission. It had nothing to do with banks, insurgency or the Chakmas. Remember: Goswami Committee means electoral reforms, 1990.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) De-nationalisation of banks was not its subject.
- (b) Right: it dealt with electoral reforms.
- (c) Insurgency in the North-east was not its subject.
- (d) The problem of the Chakmas was not its subject.
