- Why in news
- On 27 March 2026, the Textiles Minister told the Rajya Sabha that sites for all 7 PM MITRA Parks are finalised, with Rs 63,177 crore of investment interest received so far.
- Sites
- Seven parks: Virudhnagar (Tamil Nadu), Warangal (Telangana), Navsari (Gujarat), Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Dhar (Madhya Pradesh), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Amravati (Maharashtra).
- Investment interest
- Investment interest of Rs 63,177 crore has been received across the 7 parks so far.
- Monitoring
- The scheme is reviewed by the Project Approval Committee, the Park Monitoring Committee and SPVs for Brownfield and Greenfield parks.
- Related mission: NTTM
- National Technical Textiles Mission was launched in 2020 with an outlay of Rs 1,480 crore.
- Vision
- PM MITRA follows the '5F' vision: Farm, Fibre, Factory, Fashion, Foreign.
Don’t confuse with PM MITRA vs PLI for textiles: PM MITRA builds integrated park infrastructure; PLI gives incentives on incremental sales of MMF and technical textiles.
Don’t confuse with RoSCTL vs RoDTEP: Both rebate embedded taxes on exports; RoSCTL was for apparel and made-ups, RoDTEP covers other products and rebates taxes not refunded under other schemes.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Plug-and-play infrastructure cuts logistics costs and scales up textile manufacturing.
- Large job creation across the value chain, with sites spread across seven States.
Problems
- Delays in land, utilities and SPV setup can slow parks; investment interest may not convert into actual investment.
- Competition from Bangladesh and Vietnam, and export tariff pressure.
Way forward
- Speed up approvals and common infrastructure, and track investment conversion through the monitoring committees.
- Link the parks with PLI, NTTM and export promotion support.
