- Why in news
- On 19 October 2026, the Department of Financial Services announced a nationwide saturation campaign for financial inclusion schemes, to run from 21 October to 31 December 2026 across 2.70 lakh Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies.
- What it is
- Financial inclusion saturation means reaching every eligible person with a bank account, insurance, pension and credit. This campaign bundles PMJDY, PMJJBY, PMSBY, APY, KCC and PMFBY into one local-level camp drive run by banks under the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.
- Who runs it
- The Department of Financial Services organises it, and banks conduct the camps.
- Social security enrolments
- Camps enrol people in PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY, and seed Aadhaar in PMJJBY and PMSBY.
- Credit and crop insurance link
- KCC applications are sourced to saturate eligible PM-Kisan beneficiaries, and PMFBY enrolment supports saturation of KCC accounts for the Rabi season.
- Account hygiene and awareness
- Activities include Re-KYC, C-KYC ID generation, nomination updates and awareness on digital frauds and unclaimed assets under 'Aapki Poonji, Aapka Adhikar'.
Don’t confuse with PMJJBY vs PMSBY: PMJJBY is a life cover scheme (death from any cause); PMSBY is accident insurance covering accidental death and disability.
Don’t confuse with PMJDY vs APY: PMJDY provides basic bank accounts; APY is a pension scheme for the unorganised sector.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Brings left-out households into the formal financial system and links accounts to insurance, pension and credit.
- Updating KYC and nominations reduces dormant accounts and unclaimed assets.
Problems
- Dormant accounts, low awareness and digital fraud limit real use of accounts.
- Last-mile bank access and staff capacity in remote GPs are uneven.
Way forward
- Track outcomes such as active accounts and claim settlement, not only enrolments.
- Pair camps with financial literacy and business correspondents for lasting reach.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Covers PMJJBY, PMSBY, APY, PMJDY and KCC at 2.70 lakh local bodies; a campaign, but schemes are 16% of Prelims questions and those have own cards.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
