Question 88: Economy and Social Development

Which one of the following correctly represents the three key sub-indices of the Financial Inclusion Index (FI-Index) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ?

aCredit access, Insurance depth, and Pension coverage
bBanking access, GDP contribution, and Financial literacy
cAccess, Usage, and Quality
dAccess, Affordability, and Transparency

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).

The RBI's Financial Inclusion Index, introduced in 2021, has three sub-indices: Access (35 per cent weight), Usage (45 per cent) and Quality (20 per cent). It combines banking, investment, insurance, postal and pension services into a single value from 0 to 100, with no base year, to capture the ease of access, the depth of use and the quality of financial services.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong: credit, insurance and pension are not the sub-indices.
  • (b) Wrong: GDP contribution is not a sub-index.
  • (c) Right: Access, Usage and Quality.
  • (d) Wrong: Affordability and Transparency are not sub-indices.

Only the provisional key (27 May 2026) was found; the final key replaces it when found.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
