What it is
The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) is a MeitY scheme that supports domestic making of electronic components, sub-assemblies, supply chain items and related capital goods. It aims to cut import dependence and deepen value addition in India's electronics manufacturing.
Cumulative approvals
With this round, 75 applications are approved, with expected investment of Rs 61,671 crore and 65,040 direct jobs.
Firsts
Approvals include the country's first SMD passive plant for tantalum-based capacitors, first flexible PCB plant and first rare earth permanent magnet facility.
Budget outlay
The latest Union Budget raised the ECMS outlay to Rs 40,000 crore, as welcomed by the ICEA chairman.
Implementing ministry
ECMS is run by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Aluminium extrusion
Hindalco is approved to make aluminium extrusions for mobile phone enclosures, which are now 100% imported.

Don’t confuse with ECMS vs PLI: PLI gives incentives on incremental sales of finished products such as mobiles. ECMS supports components, sub-assemblies, supply chain items and capital goods.

Don’t confuse with ECMS vs PLI for Electronics: ECMS targets components, sub-assemblies, supply chain items and capital goods. PLI schemes for mobile and IT hardware reward sales of finished products.
