- Why in news
- On 27 August 2026, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj invited the public to donate desktop computers to verified Gram Panchayats under DAANVEER, via the Meri Panchayat App. 75 donations had been made by that date.
- What it is
- DAANVEER is a people-led computer crowdsourcing initiative of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Donors buy standard desktop bundles for Gram Panchayats that State Governments have verified as needing them. It adds voluntary public participation to government support such as the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.
- Nature
- A computer crowdsourcing initiative where individuals and organisations donate desktops directly to verified Gram Panchayats.
- Access point
- Donors view Gram Panchayats verified by State Governments on the Meri Panchayat App and can support their own or any other eligible one.
- Marketplace
- The donor is redirected to DigiHaat, an ONDC-enabled marketplace, with no separate registration.
- Confirmation and certificate
- After the Gram Panchayat Secretary acknowledges receipt, the donor gets a digital Certificate of Appreciation.
- Complements RGSA
- The initiative complements infrastructure support under government programmes such as RGSA.
- Uptake
- 75 donations had been made as on 27 August 2026.
Don’t confuse with DAANVEER vs RGSA: RGSA is a government-funded scheme for strengthening Panchayats. DAANVEER is a voluntary donation route that complements it.
Don’t confuse with Meri Panchayat App vs DigiHaat: Meri Panchayat App is where donors see eligible Panchayats. DigiHaat is the ONDC-enabled marketplace where the purchase and payment happen.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Adds voluntary and CSR resources to digital infrastructure in Gram Panchayats.
- Real-time tracking and a certificate make donations transparent and traceable.
Problems
- Donated desktops need power, connectivity, trained staff and maintenance to be useful.
- Donations may favour better-known Panchayats, leaving needy ones unsupported.
Way forward
- Pair donations with connectivity, training and maintenance support.
- Have States verify and prioritise the neediest Panchayats on the app.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: New initiative linked to RGSA and ONDC on the syllabus, but a small crowdsourcing step; question unlikely.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
