- Why in news
- On 4 September 2026, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced that the first batch of the Corporate Mitra Course has begun, with 2879 learners registered. It was launched at the ICAI Head Office in New Delhi along with the Corporate Mitra Learning Management System.
- What it is
- Corporate Mitra is a programme announced in Union Budget 2026-27 to build a pool of trained, certified paraprofessionals. They will help MSMEs handle business and regulatory compliance at affordable cost. It is run by three professional institutes under the guidance of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
- Announced in
- The initiative was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27.
- Implementing bodies
- ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI run the course under the guidance of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
- Technology and academic partners
- IIT Madras, IIT Madras Pravartak and SWAYAM Plus give technology and academic support.
- Aim
- To create a cadre of certified paraprofessionals giving affordable support to MSMEs, promoting ease of doing business, jobs and inclusive growth.
Don’t confuse with ICAI vs ICSI vs ICoAI: ICAI is for chartered accountants, ICSI for company secretaries and ICoAI for cost accountants. All three are statutory professional bodies.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Affordable compliance help can lower the compliance burden on small firms and aid formalisation of MSMEs.
- Creates a new skilled job category of paraprofessionals.
Problems
- Quality and uniform standards of a short, largely recorded course across a large number of learners.
- Whether MSMEs will pay for and trust paraprofessionals, and the limits of what they may legally do compared with CAs, CSs and CMAs.
Way forward
- Assess learners rigorously and define clearly the scope of services paraprofessionals can offer.
- Link the cadre to MSME registration and compliance portals and track outcomes.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: New Budget 2026-27 initiative to train paraprofessionals for MSME compliance. Schemes are 16% of Prelims questions, but this is only a course launch with few testable facts.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
