- Why in news
- On 2 April 2026, the Government told the Lok Sabha that AVGC Content Creator Labs will be set up in 15,000 schools and 500 colleges under Budget 2026-27, with ₹250 crore allocated.
- What it is
- AVGC Content Creator Labs are a Budget 2026-27 proposal to build skills in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) in schools and colleges. The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), Mumbai, plans and coordinates the rollout. It forms part of the push to grow the 'orange economy', the creative and content industries.
- Nodal agency
- IICT, Mumbai is the nodal agency for planning, coordination and phased rollout of the labs.
- Create in India Challenge
- Season I held 33 challenges with industry partners and ended at WAVES 2025, drawing over one lakh creators.
Don’t confuse with WaveX vs WAVES Bazaar: WaveX is the startup accelerator programme; WAVES Bazaar is a marketplace platform where selected creators present content.
Don’t confuse with IICT as NCoE vs nodal agency: As NCoE, IICT trains students and trainers in AVGC-XR. As nodal agency, it plans and coordinates the Content Creator Labs rollout.

Why it matters
- Builds a skilled pipeline for a sector projected to need about two million professionals by 2030.
- Reaches Tier-II and Tier-III towns and school students, widening access to creative careers.
Problems
- Rollout details such as technology stack and beneficiary institutions are still under consultation.
- Labs need trained teachers, equipment and industry links; current IICT enrolment (136 students) is small.
Way forward
- Finalise the technology stack and institution selection quickly, with phased rollout and monitoring.
- Scale the Train-the-Trainer programme and link labs to industry and startup platforms like WaveX.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Budget 2026-27 scheme with figures (15,000 schools, 500 colleges, Rs 250 crore); a modest topic with weak odds of a question.
Worth revising until Prelims 2027: most news questions come within two years of the event.
