Recently PM in his independence day speech stressed on the importance of 'nari-shakti', that is women empowerment, for the success and prosperity of India. Many reports like Gender Gap Report by WEF, Gender inequality Index etc show many problems being faced by women in various fields. One of the fields in India where women participation is very low is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Women account for over 43 per cent of all graduates in India, one of the highest in the world, according to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) report 2019-20. However, just 14 percent of them pursue scientific research in universities and institutions. If you are secretary of the department of science and asked to suggest measures to address the issue what will be your suggestions?
