Question 50: Science and Technology
Which of the following statements with regard to India's Deep Ocean Mission is/are correct ?
- 1.It was launched by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.
- 2.Matsya-6000 has been designed to carry 3 people for deep sea exploration.
- 3.Samudrayaan is a project under this mission.
Select the answer using the code given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
The Deep Ocean Mission was launched by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, not the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, so statement 1 is wrong. Matsya-6000, a crewed submersible being built by NIOT, will carry three people to a depth of 6,000 metres. Samudrayaan is the project under the Mission to send humans into the deep sea in Matsya-6000, so statements 2 and 3 are correct.
- 1. The Ministry of Earth Sciences launched it.
- 2. Matsya-6000 is designed to carry three people.
- 3. Samudrayaan, the crewed deep-sea project, is under the Mission.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 1.
What you needed to know: The Ministry of Earth Sciences launched it.
Only (b) is left. You didn’t need statements 2 or 3.
This follows UPSC’s provisional key; the final key could change it.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong: the Mission was launched by the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
- (b) Right: Matsya-6000 carries three people, and Samudrayaan is under the Mission.
- (c) Wrong: statement 1 is false.
- (d) Wrong: statement 1 is false.
Only the provisional key (27 May 2026) was found; the final key replaces it when found.
