  2. 2.The project is funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India.
  3. 3.Its primary aim is to build a catalogue of genetic diversity of the Indian population.

Select the answer using the code given below :

a1 only
b2 and 3 only
c1 and 2 only
d1, 2 and 3

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

GenomeIndia is a project funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, coordinated by the Centre for Brain Research at IISc, Bengaluru, with a network of institutions. Its main aim is to sequence about 10,000 Indian genomes and build a catalogue of the genetic diversity of the Indian population, to support precision medicine. It is a national project, not a part of the international Human Genome Project (1990-2003), so statement 1 is wrong.

  • 1. It is a national project, separate from the international Human Genome Project.
  • 2. The Department of Biotechnology funds the project.
  • 3. The aim is a catalogue of India's genetic diversity.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 1.

What you needed to know: It is a national project, separate from the international Human Genome Project.

Only (b) is left. You didn’t need statements 2 or 3.

This follows UPSC’s provisional key; the final key could change it.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong: it is a separate national project, not a part of the Human Genome Project.
  • (b) Right: DBT funds it, and its aim is a catalogue of genetic diversity.
  • (c) Wrong: statement 1 is false.
  • (d) Wrong: statement 1 is false.

Only the provisional key (27 May 2026) was found; the final key replaces it when found.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
