Question 76: Decision Making and Interpersonal Skills

You are required to design a ‘questionnaire’ to be filled on-location by visitors, based on the following objective while writing a report : “To determine the feasibility of setting up a family-oriented vacation resort in the vicinity of a lake destination in the mountains” Which of the following heads would you include in the questionnaire to make it most appropriate for your purpose?

  1. 1.Size of family
  2. 2.Budget
  3. 3.Number of earners in the family
  4. 4.Food allergies and dietary restrictions

Select the answer using the code given below.

a1 and 3
b1, 2 and 4
c1 and 2 only
d2 and 3

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).

A feasibility questionnaire for a family-oriented resort should capture what drives demand and pricing. Size of family (1) shapes the room types and facilities needed. Budget (2) shows what families will pay. Number of earners (3) is indirect, since budget already captures spending power. Food allergies and dietary restrictions (4) are a menu detail for after the resort exists, not a test of feasibility. So 1 and 2 only.

  • 1. Include: family size shapes the rooms and facilities needed.
  • 2. Include: budget shows what families will pay.
  • 3. Leave out: budget already captures spending power.
  • 4. Leave out: a menu detail, not a feasibility test.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 3 is not correct, (a) and (d) go: each of them includes 3.

What you needed to know: Leave out: budget already captures spending power.

  2. Then, if you were sure statement 4 is not correct, (b) goes: it includes 4.

What you needed to know: Leave out: a menu detail, not a feasibility test.

Only (c) is left. You didn’t need statements 1 or 2.

This follows UPSC’s provisional key; the final key could change it.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong: 3 is indirect, and budget (2) is missing.
  • (b) Wrong: 4 is operational detail, not feasibility.
  • (c) Right: size of family and budget bear on feasibility.
  • (d) Wrong: omits family size, and 3 is only indirect.

Only the provisional key (27 May 2026) was found; the final key replaces it when found.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
