Select the answer using the code given below :

a1, 2 and 3
b1, 2 and 4
c1, 3 and 4
d2, 3 and 4

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).

Exercise Mitra Shakti 2023 was a joint military exercise between India and Sri Lanka, not Bangladesh. It began at the Aundh Military Station in Pune, included an Indian Air Force contingent, and aimed at building joint response in counter-terrorism operations. So statements 2, 3 and 4 are correct and statement 1 is wrong.

  • 1. It was a joint exercise between India and Sri Lanka, not Bangladesh.
  • 2. The exercise began at Aundh in Pune.
  • 3. A joint response in counter-terrorism operations was a goal.
  • 4. The Indian Air Force took part.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a), (b) and (c) go: each of them includes 1.

What you needed to know: It was a joint exercise between India and Sri Lanka, not Bangladesh.

Only (d) is left. You didn’t need statements 2, 3 or 4.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong: statement 1 is wrong, since the partner was Sri Lanka.
  • (b) Wrong: statement 1 is wrong and it leaves out statement 3.
  • (c) Wrong: statement 1 is wrong and it leaves out statement 2.
  • (d) Right: it began at Aundh, targeted counter-terrorism response and included the Air Force.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
