Question 78: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
If in a certain code, ‘POT’ is written as ATOP and ‘ TRAP’ is written as APART, then how is ‘ARENA’ written in that code?
aAARENA
bAANREA
cAANEAR
dAANERA
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).
POT becomes ATOP: reverse the word to get TOP, then put an A in front. TRAP becomes APART: reverse it to get PART, then put an A in front. Apply the same rule to ARENA: reversed it is ANERA, and with A in front it is AANERA. Remember to check one rule against both given examples before applying it.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong. AARENA does not reverse the word; it keeps ARENA in order.
- (b) Wrong. AANREA has the letters in the wrong order after the first two.
- (c) Wrong. AANEAR is not the reverse of ARENA with A in front.
- (d) Right. A + ANERA (ARENA reversed) = AANERA.
