Bulgaria has a Black Sea coast but no land border with Ukraine, and the Czech Republic, Latvia and Lithuania are not its neighbours.

  • 1. Bulgaria has no land border with Ukraine.
  • 2. The Czech Republic does not border Ukraine.
  • 3. Hungary borders Ukraine.
  • 4. Latvia does not border Ukraine.
  • 5. Lithuania does not border Ukraine.
  • 6. Romania borders Ukraine.

How you could have got this

No shortcut here: in a “how many” question, ruling out options doesn’t help. Every statement has to be judged.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Correct: only Hungary and Romania border Ukraine.
  • (b) Three overcounts; Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Latvia and Lithuania do not border Ukraine.
  • (c) Four overcounts the neighbours.
  • (d) Five overcounts the neighbours.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
