Question 64: Reading Comprehension

Based on the above passage, the following assumptions have been made :
- 1.Protection of privacy is not just a right, but it has value to the economy.
- 2.There is a fundamental link between privacy and innovation.
Which of the above assumptions is/are valid ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The passage says India's digital economy must grow while personal data stays protected, because nobody innovates where people are watched or their data is compromised, and control of data should rest with the individual. So privacy is more than a right: the digital economy depends on it (statement 1), and privacy is tied to innovation (statement 2). Both assumptions are valid.
- 1. Digital economy growth is said to depend on keeping personal data secure.
- 2. Innovation is said not to happen where privacy is compromised.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: Digital economy growth is said to depend on keeping personal data secure.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (a) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: Innovation is said not to happen where privacy is compromised.
Only (c) is left. This one needs every statement.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong: statement 2 is also valid.
- (b) Wrong: statement 1 is also valid.
- (c) Right: both follow from the passage.
- (d) Wrong: both are supported.
Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
