UPSC Prelims 2022 · GS Paper I
Question 92: History and Culture
Consider the following pairs :
| King | Dynasty | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nannuka | Chandela |
| 2 | Jayashakti | Paramara |
| 3 | Nagabhata II | Gurjara-Pratihara |
| 4 | Bhoja | Rashtrakuta |
How many pairs given above are correctly matched ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
Nannuka was the founder of the Chandela dynasty, and Nagabhata II was a Gurjara-Pratihara ruler, so pairs 1 and 3 are correct. Jayashakti (Jejaka), whose name gave Jejakabhukti, was also a Chandela, not a Paramara. Bhoja belonged to the Paramaras of Malwa (or the Pratiharas), not to the Rashtrakutas. Two pairs are correct.
- 1. Nannuka founded the Chandela dynasty.
- 2. Jayashakti was a Chandela, not a Paramara.
- 3. Nagabhata II was a Gurjara-Pratihara king.
- 4. Bhoja was a Paramara (or Pratihara) king, not Rashtrakuta.
How you could have got this
No shortcut here: in a “how many” question, ruling out options doesn’t help. Every statement has to be judged.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong. Two pairs, not one, are correct.
- (b) Correct. Nannuka and Nagabhata II are matched correctly.
- (c) Wrong. Jayashakti and Bhoja are mismatched.
- (d) Wrong. Jayashakti and Bhoja are mismatched.
