UPSC Prelims 2022 · GS Paper I
Question 84: Economy and Social Development
Consider the following statements :
- 1.Gujarat has the largest solar park in India.
- 2.Kerala has a fully solar powered International Airport.
- 3.Goa has the largest floating solar photovoltaic project in India.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
Cochin International Airport in Kerala became the world's first fully solar-powered airport in 2015, so statement 2 is true. In 2022 the largest solar park in India was Bhadla in Rajasthan, not a Gujarat park, and the largest floating solar project was at Ramagundam in Telangana, not Goa. So only statement 2 is correct.
- 1. The largest solar park in India at the time was Bhadla in Rajasthan.
- 2. Cochin International Airport is fully solar powered.
- 3. The largest floating solar project was at Ramagundam in Telangana.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a) and (c) go: each of them includes 1.
What you needed to know: The largest solar park in India at the time was Bhadla in Rajasthan.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (d) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: Cochin International Airport is fully solar powered.
Only (b) is left. You didn’t need statement 3.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong. Gujarat did not have India's largest solar park.
- (b) Correct. Only the Kerala airport statement holds.
- (c) Wrong. Neither the Gujarat nor the Goa claim holds.
- (d) Wrong. The largest floating solar project is not in Goa.
Worth knowing: Gujarat's Khavda renewable energy park is now billed as the largest in the country, so statement 1 could read differently today; UPSC's answer reflects the position in 2022.
Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
