Consider the following statements :
- 1.Bidibidi is a large refugee settlement in north-western Kenya.
- 2.Some people who fled from South Sudan civil war live in Bidibidi.
- 3.Some people who fled from civil war in Somalia live in Dadaab refugee complex in Kenya.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
Bidibidi is one of the world's largest refugee settlements, but it is in north-western Uganda (Yumbe district), not Kenya, and it hosts mostly people who fled the South Sudan civil war. Dadaab, in north-eastern Kenya, is a refugee complex sheltering people who fled the conflict in Somalia. So statements 2 and 3 are correct and statement 1 is wrong.
- 1. Bidibidi is in north-western Uganda, not Kenya.
- 2. Bidibidi hosts people who fled the South Sudan civil war.
- 3. Dadaab in Kenya shelters Somali refugees.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 2 is correct, (d) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: Bidibidi hosts people who fled the South Sudan civil war.
- Then, if you were sure statement 3 is correct, (a) and (b) go: each of them leaves 3 out.
What you needed to know: Dadaab in Kenya shelters Somali refugees.
Only (c) is left. You didn’t need statement 1.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong. Bidibidi is in Uganda, not Kenya.
- (b) Wrong. Statement 3 on Dadaab is also correct.
- (c) Correct. South Sudanese in Bidibidi and Somalis in Dadaab.
- (d) Wrong. Statement 2 on Bidibidi is also correct.
