Question 35: Science and Technology
Which one of the following is the context in which the term “qubit” is mentioned ?
aCloud Services
bQuantum Computing
cVisible Light Communication Technologies
dWireless Communication Technologies
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
A qubit, or quantum bit, is the basic unit of information in quantum computing. Unlike a classical bit, which is either 0 or 1, a qubit can be in a superposition of both states, and qubits can be entangled with each other. The term has no place in cloud services, visible light communication or wireless communication.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Cloud services use classical bits and virtual servers, not qubits.
- (b) Correct. The qubit is quantum computing's unit of information.
- (c) Visible light communication sends data with light; it does not use qubits.
- (d) Wireless communication relies on classical signals, not qubits.
