aThe Quit India Resolution was adopted by the AICC.
bThe Viceroy’s Executive Council was expanded to include more Indians.
cThe Congress ministries resigned in seven provinces.

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
On 8 August 1942, at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay, the All India Congress Committee adopted the Quit India Resolution, and Gandhi gave his call of Do or Die. The Executive Council expansion was part of the August Offer of 1940, the Congress ministries resigned in 1939 after India was drawn into the war, and the Cripps proposals of March 1942 offered Dominion status after the war.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: the AICC adopted the Quit India Resolution in Bombay on 8 August 1942.
- (b) Wrong: expansion of the Viceroy's Executive Council was part of the 1940 August Offer.
- (c) Wrong: the Congress ministries resigned in 1939.
- (d) Wrong: the Cripps proposals came in March 1942.
