Question 19: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
A family of two generations consisting of six members P, Q, R, S, T and U has three males and three females. There are two married couples and two unmarried siblings. U is P's daughter and Q is R's mother-in-law. T is an unmarried male and S is a male. Which one of the following is correct?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
Q is R's mother-in-law, so Q is a woman with a married child, and U, being P's daughter, shows P and Q are the parent couple. The two unmarried siblings are U and T. That leaves R and S as the second couple; S is male, so R is his wife and Q's daughter-in-law. Count: P, T and S are male; Q, U and R are female, three each.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) U is an unmarried sibling of T, so she has no husband.
- (b) Right: S, the only male left for the second couple, is R's husband.
- (c) S is married to R, so he is not unmarried.
- (d) Option (b) is correct, so this cannot be.
