Recently, India signed a deal known as ‘Action Plan for Prioritization and Implementation of Cooperation Areas in the Nuclear Field’ with which of the following countries?

aJapan
bRussia
cThe United Kingdom
dThe United States of America

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

India signed the Action Plan for Prioritization and Implementation of Cooperation Areas in the Nuclear Field with Russia in 2018, to deepen nuclear energy cooperation, including the Russian-built units at the Kudankulam plant. Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States have their own separate nuclear arrangements with India, so only Russia fits this action plan.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Japan has a separate civil nuclear agreement with India.
  • (b) Correct: the action plan was signed with Russia.
  • (c) The UK has a separate civil nuclear cooperation arrangement with India.
  • (d) The US has a separate arrangement with India under the 2008 deal.
