The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), a UN mechanism to assist countries transition towards greener and more inclusive economies, emerged at

aThe Earth Summit on Sustainable Development 2002, Johannesburg
bThe United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development 2012, Rio de Janeiro
cThe United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2015, Paris
dThe World Sustainable Development Summit 2016, New Delhi

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy was launched in 2013, following the call in the outcome document of the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro for support to countries moving to green economies. It brings together UN agencies such as UNEP, ILO, UNIDO, UNDP and UNITAR. The Johannesburg summit of 2002 and the Paris conference of 2015 are different events.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Johannesburg 2002 predates the call for PAGE.
  • (b) Right: Rio+20 in 2012.
  • (c) Paris 2015 produced the Paris Agreement, not PAGE.
  • (d) The New Delhi summit of 2016 is not PAGE's origin.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
