Select the correct answer using the code given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The Santhal rebellion of 1855-56 under Sidhu and Kanhu shook Company rule in eastern India. In response the British carved out a separate district, the Santhal Parganas, and followed it with tenancy laws that barred a Santhal from transferring land to a non-Santhal, protecting tribal land from moneylenders and outsiders. Both measures were taken after the revolt.
- 1. The Santhal Parganas were created as a separate district.
- 2. Tenancy law barred transfer of Santhal land to non-Santhals.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: The Santhal Parganas were created as a separate district.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (a) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: Tenancy law barred transfer of Santhal land to non-Santhals.
Only (c) is left. This one needs every statement.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
