Question 21: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
If LSJXVC is the code for MUMBAI, the code for DELHI is
aCCIDD
bCDKGH
cCCJFG
dCCIFE
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
Compare MUMBAI with LSJXVC letter by letter: M to L is 1 step back, U to S is 2 back, M to J is 3 back, B to X is 4 back (wrapping past A), A to V is 5 back, I to C is 6 back. So each letter moves back by its position number: 1, 2, 3, and so on. For DELHI: D-1 = C, E-2 = C, L-3 = I, H-4 = D, I-5 = D, which gives CCIDD.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct: D-1, E-2, L-3, H-4, I-5 give C, C, I, D, D.
- (b) Second letter should be E-2 = C, not D.
- (c) Third letter should be L-3 = I, not J.
- (d) Fourth letter should be H-4 = D, not F.
