With reference to ‘Global Climate Change Alliance’, which of the following statements is/are correct?
- 1.It is an initiative of the European Union.
- 2.It provides technical and financial support to targeted developing countries to integrate climate change into their development policies and budgets.
- 3.It is coordinated by World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Select the correct answer using the code given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
The Global Climate Change Alliance is an initiative of the European Union, launched in 2007, that gives technical and financial support to the most vulnerable developing countries (least developed countries and small island developing states) to integrate climate change into their development policies and budgets. So Statements 1 and 2 are right. It is not coordinated by WRI and WBCSD; those organisations are known for other work, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, so Statement 3 is wrong.
- 1. It is an initiative of the European Union.
- 2. It gives technical and financial help to integrate climate change into policies and budgets.
- 3. It is not coordinated by WRI and WBCSD.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 3 is not correct, (b), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 3.
What you needed to know: It is not coordinated by WRI and WBCSD.
Only (a) is left. You didn’t need statements 1 or 2.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: it is an EU initiative that helps developing countries mainstream climate change.
- (b) Wrong: statement 3, coordination by WRI and WBCSD, is false.
- (c) Wrong: statement 3 is false and statement 1 is true.
- (d) Wrong: statement 3 is false.
