The Belt and Road Initiative, earlier called One Belt One Road, was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. It is China's programme of building land and maritime infrastructure links such as ports, roads and railways to connect Asia, Africa and Europe. India has objected to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a part of it, because it passes through territory India claims.
