- 1.Bangladesh
- 2.Cambodia
- 3.China
- 4.Myanmar

Select the correct answer using the code given below.
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation, launched in 2000, has six members: India, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Bangladesh and China are not members, although China is part of the Mekong river basin. So items 1 and 3 are the ones that do not take part, which is the answer sought by this negatively framed question.
- 1. Bangladesh is not a participant in the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation.
- 2. Cambodia is a participant.
- 3. China is not a participant.
- 4. Myanmar is a participant.
- 5. Thailand is a participant.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) goes: it leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: Bangladesh is not a participant in the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation.
- Then, if you were sure statement 3 is correct, (a) and (d) go: each of them leaves 3 out.
What you needed to know: China is not a participant.
Only (c) is left. You didn’t need statements 2, 4 or 5.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Incomplete: China is also not a participant.
- (b) Wrong: Cambodia and Myanmar are members.
- (c) Correct: Bangladesh and China are the two non-participants.
- (d) Wrong: Cambodia and Thailand are members.
