- 2.The Command Area Development Programme was launched in 1974-75 for the development of water-use efficiency.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
The Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme was launched in 1996-97 to give central loan assistance to States to complete ongoing major and medium irrigation projects, not to give loans to poor farmers, so statement 1 is wrong. The Command Area Development Programme, begun in 1974-75, aims at better water-use efficiency and a more complete use of created irrigation potential, so statement 2 is correct.
- 1. AIBP gives central assistance to States for irrigation projects; it is not a loan scheme for poor farmers.
- 2. CADP began in 1974-75 to improve water-use efficiency.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a) and (c) go: each of them includes 1.
What you needed to know: AIBP gives central assistance to States for irrigation projects; it is not a loan scheme for poor farmers.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (d) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: CADP began in 1974-75 to improve water-use efficiency.
Only (b) is left. This one needs every statement.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong: AIBP assists States with irrigation projects, not poor farmers.
- (b) Correct: only the CADP statement is right.
- (c) Wrong: statement 1 is false.
- (d) Wrong: statement 2 is true.
