- 1.It is intended to assist the developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change.
- 2.It is founded under the aegis of UNEP, OECD, Asian Development Bank and World Bank.
Select the correct answer using the code given below.
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
The Green Climate Fund was set up under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, as a financial mechanism to help developing countries with adaptation and mitigation, so statement 1 is correct. It was not founded under the aegis of UNEP, the OECD, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank; the World Bank was only named its interim trustee. Statement 2 is wrong.
- 1. The fund assists developing countries in adaptation and mitigation.
- 2. It was set up under the UNFCCC, not under UNEP, OECD, ADB and the World Bank.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: The fund assists developing countries in adaptation and mitigation.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is not correct, (c) goes: it includes 2.
What you needed to know: It was set up under the UNFCCC, not under UNEP, OECD, ADB and the World Bank.
Only (a) is left. This one needs every statement.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct: the fund helps developing countries adapt and mitigate; the founding claim is false.
- (b) Wrong: statement 2 is false.
- (c) Wrong: statement 2 is false.
- (d) Wrong: statement 1 is true.
