Question 21: International Relations and Current Affairs
Which one of the following issues the 'Global Economic Prospects' report periodically?
aThe Asian Development Bank
bThe European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
cThe US Federal Reserve Bank
dThe World Bank
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).
The World Bank publishes the Global Economic Prospects report twice a year, in January and June. It assesses the global economy and gives growth forecasts for regions and countries. Reports from other bodies are often confused with it: the IMF publishes the World Economic Outlook, and the Asian Development Bank brings out the Asian Development Outlook.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) The Asian Development Bank issues the Asian Development Outlook.
- (b) The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development publishes a Transition Report, not this one.
- (c) The US Federal Reserve brings out monetary policy reports for the United States.
- (d) Correct: the World Bank issues Global Economic Prospects.
Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
