With reference to the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), which of the following statements is/are correct?
- 1.It is a Public Limited Government Company.
- 2.It is a Non-Banking Financial Company.
Select the correct answer using the code given below.
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency was set up in 1987 and works under what is now the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It is a Public Limited Government Company, so statement 1 is correct, and it is registered with the Reserve Bank as a Non-Banking Financial Company that finances renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, so statement 2 is correct.
- 1. IREDA is a Public Limited Government Company.
- 2. IREDA is an NBFC lending for renewable energy projects.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: IREDA is a Public Limited Government Company.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (a) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: IREDA is an NBFC lending for renewable energy projects.
Only (c) is left. This one needs every statement.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Incomplete: IREDA is also a Non-Banking Financial Company.
- (b) Incomplete: IREDA is also a Public Limited Government Company.
- (c) Correct: it is both a public limited government company and an NBFC.
- (d) Wrong: both statements are correct.
