- 2.Bears
- 3.Rodents

a1 and 2 only
b2 only
c1, 2 and 3

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
Hibernation is a state of reduced activity and metabolism through winter. It is seen in bats, which hang in caves and lower body temperature, in bears, which spend winter in dens living off stored fat in a deep winter sleep, and in many rodents such as dormice, marmots and ground squirrels. So all three kinds of animals show hibernation.
- 1. Many bats hibernate through winter in roosts and caves.
- 2. Bears den and sleep through winter on stored fat.
- 3. Many rodents like marmots and dormice hibernate.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong. Rodents such as ground squirrels and dormice also hibernate.
- (b) Wrong. Bats and rodents also hibernate.
- (c) Right. Bats, bears and rodents all show hibernation.
- (d) Wrong. All three include hibernating animals.
