Question 22: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability

Passage · as printed by UPSC
Passage beginning “Out of four friends A, B, C and D…”

Which game do B, C and D play ?

aBasketball
bHockey
cCricket
dFootball

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

Use each friend's list: B plays football, cricket and hockey; C plays cricket, hockey and basketball; D plays basketball, football and hockey. Compare the three lists. Cricket is missing from D, football is missing from C, and basketball is missing from B. Only hockey appears in all three, so hockey is the game B, C and D play.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong. B does not play basketball.
  • (b) Right. Hockey is the one game common to B, C and D.
  • (c) Wrong. D does not play cricket.
  • (d) Wrong. C does not play football.
