Question 95: Geography

Which one of the following pairs is not correctly matched ?

Dam/LakeRiver
aGovind Sagar : Satluj
bKolleru Lake : Krishna
cUkai Reservoir : Tapi
dWular Lake : Jhelum

AnswerThe answer is (b).

Kolleru Lake is a large freshwater lake between the Godavari and Krishna deltas in Andhra Pradesh, fed mainly by the Budameru and Tammileru streams and by canals from both rivers; it is not on the river Krishna, so that pair is wrongly matched. Govind Sagar is the reservoir of the Bhakra dam on the Satluj, Ukai is on the Tapi in Gujarat, and Wular Lake in Kashmir is fed by the Jhelum. Remember: Kolleru lies between the Godavari and Krishna deltas.

  • a. Govind Sagar is the Bhakra reservoir on the Satluj.
  • b. Kolleru Lake lies between the Godavari and Krishna deltas; it is not on the Krishna.
  • c. Ukai reservoir is on the Tapi.
  • d. Wular Lake is on the Jhelum.
Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Correct: Govind Sagar is on the Satluj.
  • (b) Right (the pair not correctly matched): Kolleru Lake lies between the Godavari and Krishna deltas.
  • (c) Correct: Ukai reservoir is on the Tapi.
  • (d) Correct: Wular Lake is on the Jhelum.
