Question 93: Geography
Which one of the following can one come across if one travels through the Strait of Malacca ?
aBali
bBrunei
cJava
dSingapore
AnswerThe answer is (d).
The Strait of Malacca separates the Malay Peninsula from the Indonesian island of Sumatra and links the Andaman Sea with the South China Sea. Singapore lies at its south-eastern end. Bali and Java are in Indonesia's south, away from the strait, and Brunei is on the northern coast of Borneo across the South China Sea. Remember: the Malacca Strait ends at Singapore.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Bali lies far to the south-east of the strait.
- (b) Brunei is on Borneo, not on the strait.
- (c) Java is south of Sumatra, away from the strait.
- (d) Right: Singapore is at the south-eastern end of the strait.
