Question 70: Economy and Social Development

Inclusive growth as enunciated in the Eleventh Five Year Plan does not include one of the following :

aReduction of poverty
bExtension of employment opportunities
cStrengthening of capital market
dReduction of gender inequality

AnswerThe answer is (c).

The Eleventh Plan (2007-12), 'Towards Faster and More Inclusive Growth', described inclusive growth as growth that reduces poverty, creates employment, improves access to education, health and basic services, and narrows inequalities, including those of gender, region and caste. Strengthening of the capital market is a financial-sector goal and was not part of the inclusive growth agenda. Remember: inclusive = poverty, jobs, services, equity.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Reducing poverty is a core aim of inclusive growth.
  • (b) Extending employment opportunities is a core aim.
  • (c) Right: strengthening the capital market is not part of inclusive growth.
  • (d) Reducing gender inequality is a stated aim.
